One average for the whole distance

Average pace is your swim time divided by distance. Total time assumes the same pace for the entire swim. Neither includes rest between repeats or predicts your fastest 100.

Using a goal time? The result is the average pace that goal requires. It does not predict whether you will achieve it.

Average pace = swim time ÷ (distance ÷ 100)

Does this include rest between repeats?

Use the time spent swimming your chosen distance, excluding rests between separate repeats. The calculator cannot subtract rest automatically. For a continuously timed swim or race, use the recorded elapsed time, including any pauses within that effort.

Does switching yards to meters convert my distance?

No. The unit tells us what your distance means. Switching units keeps the number you typed, so check it before calculating again. Pace is always per 100 of your selected unit. In Total time mode, check both the distance and pace after switching units.

Why don’t I need to choose a stroke or pool?

Average pace depends on just distance and time. Pool length and stroke do not change that arithmetic. To estimate a race time in a different pool, use the Time Converter.

How is pace different from a send-off interval?

Pace describes your swimming time per distance. A send-off interval includes the swim and the rest before the next repeat. Swimming 100 in 1:45 and resting 15 seconds gives a 2:00 send-off; the swimming pace is 1:45 per 100.
